PKU Training Program for Young Teachers - Session on “Expository Teaching” Kicks Off

To serve the teaching and learning needs of the faculty and students at PKU, help the teachers master the core content of the new version (9.1) of Teaching and Learning @ PKU, and further promote the application of informatized teaching, CETL held a training session on “Video Clipping and Format Conversion” from 2: 00 p.m. to 4: 00 p.m on October 11 at Classroom 403 of Electrified Teaching Building. During the training session, teacher LI Zhigang introduced in detail how to use Audition, a professional audio processing program, to quickly and efficiently prepare course video materials.

Mr. LL first introduced the three basic elements of sound, and pointed out that the parameters in audio processing are actually the digital reflection of the sound in daily lives; then, he led the students to explore the factors that may appear in the digital conversion of the sound and could affect the audio effect.

Mr. LI then gave a brief introduction to Adobe Audition, an audio processing software, on its interface, functions, the difference between single and multiple tracks in his demonstration. After the students had a preliminary understanding of the software, Mr. LI showed how to use Adobe Audition to collect and process audio materials, including audio collection and recording methods for different sources, audio scaling, selection, editing, and format processing, with a special focus on audio effects, such as tone rising and lowering, fade-in and fade-out, noise reduction, volume adjustment and so on.

After the demonstration, Mr. LI instructed the participants to practice the operations in the rest of the time, answered questions concerning sound cutting, and the applications fields of sound editing, and provided solutions to the problems encountered by the teachers and students.

In the future, CETL will stay committed to serving the faculty’s teaching needs and continue to organize thematic training sessions. Teachers and students from all faculties and departments are welcome to participate.
