Notice on Launching the 2019 “New Teaching Ideas” Project of Peking University

In order to implement the Education Informatization 2.0 Action Plan and the Guidance Opinions of the Ministry of Education on Strengthening the Construction and Application of Online Learning Space, build a new model of talent training, education services and education management in the “Internet +” era, and actively promote the sustainable development of education resources, the information literacy of teachers and students, education integration and innovation, the Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning will launch the 2019 “New Teaching Ideas” project with the aim of providing the teachers and students with project organization and guidance, technical support and services, and help in conducting research project application, participation in innovation application contest, teaching seminars and other activities to further guide the teaching team to follow the trends, stimulate their teaching innovation and practical breakthroughs, and improve the quality of teaching and talent development through a series of cutting-edge academic lectures and information technology training.

I. Project application

For the 2019 “Teaching New Ideas” project, teachers and students (including the Health Science Center) of the university can apply based on the research directions proposed by the project application guideline (see Annex 2), and they can also take into consideration the actual needs of various departments and faculties on the premise of meeting the principle of project establishment to determine the research directions and topics.

To better support the application attempts of our teachers and students, we will hold “Leading Lectures and Special Trainings” (see Annex II);

In order to promote the teaching and research results in the university and better implement the Action Plan and Guidance of the Ministry of Education, we will organize the participants of the project to compete in the “Teaching and Learning Innovation Application Competition” (see Annex II) and participate in teaching seminars.

(1) Time for application

March 8th - March 28th, 2019

(2) Qualification

All faculty members and students (including the Health Science Center) can apply for the project.

Applicants can apply individually or as project groups. A team shall generally have no more than three members, all of whom shall be faculty members or students of the university.

Each applicant can only be one independent applicant or a leader of one project team, but can be a member of other teams.

Individual and joint application across departments and faculties are both encouraged;

(3) Application method

Please send the “Project Application Form” (Annex 1) to coursecontest@pku.edu.cn by 17:00 on March 28, 2019 (Thursday), and submit the paper version to Room 415 of Audio-Visual Teaching Building before 17:00 on March 29th (Friday).

II. Project management

The project review will be completed in early April. Upon approval, the teams can proceed with the implementation according to their research plan and participate in the events of the “New Teaching Ideas” project.

(1) Lecture and training

April 4th - June 27th, 2019

The lecture training is open to the teachers and students of the university, and project team members are encouraged to participate in the “Leading Lectures and Special Training”;

(2) Innovation Contest

July 6, 2019, Room 331 of Audio-Visual Teaching Building

The Innovation Contest is open to all the teachers and students of the university. The project teams must participate in the competition;

(3) Research Period

April 4th - October 30th, 2019

The teams shall submit mid-term reports by July 31, 2019.

They shall submit the research results (including research papers) before October 30, 2019 to be reviewed in early November.

(4) Exchange and discussion

November 18, 2019, Room 403 of Audio-Visual Teaching Building

We will organize a “New Teaching Ideas” exchange seminar open to the university, and the teams are required participate.

III. Funding

After the project is approved, each team can receive project funding of RMB 20,000 to 50,000, and the funding for this year will cover no more than 25 projects.

The project funds will be provided from Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning to the personal account of the project team leader. The funding will be given in two batches, first upon approval in April and second at the end of the Innovation Contest in July;

The winners of the Innovation Contest will be awarded university-level certificates and medals, and will be selected to participate in national teaching competitions or excellent case collection.

The expert committee will review the final materials and determine the rewards based on the quality of the results. The reward standard for excellent projects is RMB 10,000 /project, and for good projects RMB 5,000/project.

We will compile the research papers submitted by the project team into the “New Teaching Idea Proceedings” and recommend them to be published in domestic educational journals.

Excellent projects will be invited to share results in the “New Teaching Ideas” exchange seminar.
