Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning Held Training Program for Young Teachers Entitled “Informatized Teaching”

At 2 pm on March 1, 2019, the first lecture entitled “Informatized Teaching” of the Module III of the Training Program for Young Teachers was held at the Room 305 of the Science Teaching Building. Professor Li Xiaoming from the School of Electronics Engineering and Computer Science and Associate Professor Shang Junjie from the School of Education were invited as the keynote speakers of this course, sharing the understanding and thinking of informatized teaching with the 47 young teachers from various departments and schools.

This course aims to help young teachers understand the basic situation of informatized teaching at home and abroad, and how to use information technologies to improve teaching quality. Professor Li Xiaoming firstly explained the influence of informatization on teachers’ career. He proposed two basic judgments: “Technology is now mature enough to achieve effective online teaching activities at low cost; online (hybrid) teaching will be widely integrated into teaching activities of the university”. At the same time, Prof. Li used his own course “Computational Thinking Methods in Social Science” to share with the participants how to conduct hybrid teaching based on MOOCs, how much to invest, and how is the effect as well as its room for improvement.

Associate Professor Shang Junjie, with the topic of “New Era, New Technology, New Education – Internet + and Educational Reform”, guided the young teachers to think about the impact of modern technology on education and how education should change, and illustrate the way to use technical means to retain students’ motivation, and how to make learning a more scientific process. Finally, He proposed the characteristics of future education and new development opportunities in the context of “Internet +”.

The teachers who participated in the training said they have gained a lot of useful knowledge, which promoted their thinking about the importance and challenges of information teaching, and helped them reflect on their own teaching methods. Many also hope to learn more about technical means and operational details.

The course of this semester will focus on informatized teaching, and offer elective courses such as Multimedia Courseware, Informatized Teaching Application, Peking University Network Teaching, Online Open course Construction and Application for young teachers. Furthermore, the Center will adopt various forms such as teaching observation and micro-teaching to strengthen the practice links, and effectively improve the teaching ability of our young teachers.
